PTA Meeting Minutes
February 1, 2017
The Bannockburn Elementary School PTA met on February 1, 2017 at the Bannockburn Elementary School (BES). PTA Co-President Heather Kraus called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
In attendance: There were 28 participants including members of the PTA Board, BES Principal Kate Bradley, and BES Music Teacher Maggie Ware.
Welcome and Presentation on the BES Music Program
PTA Co-Presidents Ms. Kraus and Marget Maurer welcomed everyone to the meeting.
Ms. Ware presented the state of music class at BES. She explained how some older instruments were simply worn out and should be replaced while the school should expand its collection of other instruments to match the growing student population. Finally, she presented her wish list for new instruments and explained how different grades would benefit from the different types of instruments.
PTA Co-Presidents’ and Committee Reports
Ms. Kraus explained that the PTA auditors would like the PTA to keep a reserve of $10,000 in surplus funds from year to year but that the PTA currently has a reserve of $56,000. She then presented the larger “Proposed Expenses” list from BES Principal Bradley and some of the teachers, including Ms. Ware. Kathy Hurld moved that the PTA use most of its surplus to pay for this proposed list of expenses; Allison Leotta seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously by voice vote without changes.
PTA Secretary Bonnie Noonan presented the minutes from the November 2016 PTA meeting and the January PTA Executive Board meeting. Shannon Rosenthal moved to approve each set of minutes and Becky Sharp seconded each of these two motions. Each motion passed unanimously by voice vote without correction. Tim Yehl, Treasurer, presented the Treasurer’s Report and further explained the current PTA surplus.
Kara Myers presented the Fundraising report.
Susan Eagle and Sarah Mannes gave the Cluster Representatives Report.
The following reports were given in a written form: Social Activities, Before and After School Clubs, MCCPTA, and In-School Activities.
Ms. Kraus and Ms. Maurer noting three important upcoming events: Math Day (Friday, February 10); PTA Parent Social and Auction (Saturday, February 25); and the Fun Run (Saturday, March 18)
The meeting was adjourned at 8:07 p.m.
