Caribbean American Heritage Month

Caribbean American Heritage Month was proclaimed by President George W. Bush in June 2006 and celebrates people with ancestry from one or more of the Caribbean sovereign states or dependent territories. This month celebrates a vast number of countries, cultures, traditions, ethnicities, and languages. Maryland has one of the highest populations of Caribbean Americans of any of the states.

To highlight just a few of the role models in this community, we recognize:

  • Alexander Hamilton, First Secretary of the Treasury
  • Tim Duncan, Hall of Fame basket ball player
  • Kelsey Grammar, Actor
  • Shirley Chisholm, First African American Congresswoman
