Woodchip Spreading for 6 New Trees – Volunteers Needed March 23rd @ 10:30am

Reforest Montgomery and MCPS are in preparations to plant 6 new trees in the existing woodlands of the school. These trees are intended to fill a canopy gap that resulted from the removal of a large dead white Oak tree (see pictures).  The trees are also an MCPS investment in the resiliency of the BES woodlands, in partnership with our community’s overall woodland stewardship volunteer efforts to stabilize and enhance the native tree canopy and ecology of the grounds (more on that here…).

Our work on March 23rd is to distribute the woodchip piles to each planting location, in a manner that will assist our community’s first year efforts to care for (watering/weeding) these new trees while they get established.

SIGN UP HERE if you are able to come out and help. More hands (adults and kids) will make the work light.

VOLUNTEER TOOLS ARE NEEDED. Each volunteer does need to bring tools and gloves. Please reference the sign-up genius for those details.

Thanks for your help!
