Last year’s BES PTA International Night was held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Walt Whitman High School from 6:30 – 8:30.
Come join the fun with food, music and fantastic booths all manned by BES families showcasing their international heritage.
Grab a passport at the door and take your family on a trip around the world! It’s time to experience the sights, sounds and tastes of the more than 50 nationalities, countries and cultures that make our Bannockburn community strong.
Everyone is invited, students and siblings. And it’s FREE!

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR SET UP?
The event will run from 6:30 to 8:30 pm but please try to be there by 6:00 pm. We know this is tough for many of the DC commuters so please let us know if you anticipate problems so we can help you prepare!
WHEN DO I PICK UP MY DISPLAY?
If you didn’t keep yours from last year, we will be passing out blank displays – one for each country — on TUESDAY, April 10th at BES. There will be two chances to pick them up: from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, and again from 3:30-4:30 pm. Each country will have a table of 60 x 30 inches, plenty of space to display food, flags, crafts, games, pictures, videos, artwork – anything. Since the tables themselves are hardly flattering, we suggest using a tablecloth – however basic – perhaps with the colors of your country. If you think you want to split a table with another country, please let us know!
Food is one of the fun parts of International Night since so many countries have treats that make them special. But preparing food isn’t obligatory by any means. Food will be served free — first come, first serve. You don’t need to cook for the entire school!! Please label any unusual foods that have nuts in them.
We will provide water bottles, small paper plates, plastic forks and spoons. You are welcome to bring your own, country-specific cutlery and plates should you choose.
A passport will be given to each child at the entrance. The passport will have a space for “stamps” that will be given at each of the tables. We will provide the stamps. At the end of their mini-world tour, children will get a prize depending on how many stamps they get.
At the beginning of the event, children can participate in a ‘kids parade’. This is a fun, low-stress activity! (read: no rehearsals necessary) If your children come to International Night wearing clothes that speak to a particular country – a soccer jersey works great – that’s fantastic. But special, more elaborate outfits are certainly not required.
At the end of the event, we will have a series of short performances. These are wonderful opportunities to exhibit traditional dancing and music from your countries. If you have not yet offered to participate, there is still space for 2-3 minute performances. Please let us know!!
