PTA Advocacy Alert: MCPS Budget Proposed Cuts (NEW)

MCPS Budget Proposal & Student Support Services

The Montgomery County Board of Education is in the process of finalizing decisions related to the MCPS FY27 budget. Although the County Council approved a budget increase over this year’s budget, the funding for MCPS is approximately $36 million below the school system’s request. In response, Superintendent Taylor has proposed more than 400 position reductions systemwide, affecting a range of school-based and support roles.

Proposed reductions include positions like school psychologists, special education resource teachers, and instructional support specialists. These professionals provide essential services for our students. They are critical to conducting student evaluations to inform special education services and helping schools meet the needs of learners requiring additional services, among other important services.

The Montgomery County Board of Education is expected to review and vote on final budget allocations on JUNE 4TH. Families interested in learning more or sharing feedback may review budget information and call or email the Members of the Board of Education and the Superintendent’s Office with their views on the proposed cuts.
