March 3rd PTA Meeting Recap
Thanks for showing up in the cold, rainy weather with the energy we needed.
Board Meeting Update
Last night, the Board elected this year’s PTA Board Nominating Committee to recruit next year’s (2026-2027) leaders–Rosalyn Kumar, Jennifer Robbins, and Lauren Hill. These lovely ladies will officially begin their work recruiting and thoughtfully matching candidates to our open PTA Board positions in a few weeks. Stay tuned for more information about both the elected Board roles and volunteer lead opportunities for next year.
PTA-Sponsored Events and Program Updates
At our general membership meeting, we heard school updates from Ms. Mayberg and PTA event and program highlights:
- Auction on Mar 14
- Fun Run on Apr 11
- In-School Assemblies
- Fundraising and Community Service success
- Advocacy and school grounds + woodland stewardship updates
NAACP Parent Council Update
BES NAACP representative Sarah White shared an exciting new (and free!) educational opportunity for our students.
MCPS and the NAACP Parent Council have launched an iXL online learning pilot, the Spring MAP/MCAP 12‑Week Momentum Challenge, available now to all MCPS students through Clever. The program is designed to help boost math skills for grades K–5.
Families can sign up HERE.

MCPS Snow Closures & House Bill 1084
As many of you have seen, MCPS announced that due to last month’s snow closures, the school year will be extended through June 25. Under current state law, MCPS must meet both 180 instructional days and 1,080 instructional hours.
We discussed the emergency legislation under consideration, House Bill 1084, which would allow MCPS to satisfy requirements by meeting either the 1,080 hours or 180 days—rather than both.
To express your support or opposition to the bill, contact Bethesda’s state senator, Sara Love, at sara.love@senate.maryland.gov or 410-841-3124.
