MCPS ’26-’27 Calendar Alert: Parent Input Needed by Apr 30!
MCPS Calendar Proposal: Parent Input Needed!
Take Action: Complete the MCPS Survey
On April 30 (in just 8 days), the Board of Education will vote on a proposal that would:
- Start school 5 days earlier for the 2026–27 school year
- Eliminate planned spring makeup days
- Potentially push makeup days into June (even after testing)
Why it matters:
- Timing of makeup days could impact instructional value
- Changes may affect family schedules and planning
When completing the survey, some things families may want to consider:
Have an opinion on the calendar? Make your voice heard.
MCPS is collecting parent input through a survey:
- Options that allow flexibility in when makeup days occur (rather than pushing them to the end of the year)
- How the timing of makeup days (e.g., during the school year vs. after testing) may impact instructional value
- Ensuring students still receive required instructional time
Some ideas other parents have raised include:
- Adjusting or removing transition days
- Using certain holidays as makeup days (with excused absences/no testing)
- Converting grading/reporting days into instructional or half days
